What a great project! St. Mary's Art Center in Virginia City and the Core Contemporary Gallery in Las Vegas came together to host a unique art event through The Nevada Art Council's Basin to Range Exchange program called NVHead2Toe.
Fifteen artists from Northern Nevada and fifteen artists from the Las Vegas area were paired to produce collaborative artworks. The catch was that neither artist could see the other's work. We were given half of a canvas to work with and some match lines to meet. One artist was to do the "head" and the other to do the "toes". I was very happy to be selected to participate in such a unique idea. The curiosity about what lay below the cover on the other side of the canvas was intense. What colors? What subject matter? The finished product is sure to be a juxtaposition of spontaneous imagery. How could the entire piece not explode with artistic tension and contrast? The finished products will be shown at the St. Mary's Art Center in Virginia City from Friday, December 13 to Sunday, December 15. Then the pieces are moved to Core Contemporary Gallery in Las Vegas and shown from January 23 to February 29, with a reception on Saturday January 25. For more information in Northern Nevada visit www.stmarysartcenter.org. They are at 555 R Street in Virginia City. In Southern Nevada see www.corecontemporary.com. They are at 900 East Karen Ave. Ste D222, Las Vegas. And here is a photo of the entire piece [HEAD and TOES.jpeg] "With credit to Kim Johnson from Las Vegas on the 'head'" We've all been tempted to get a t-shirt with the logo of our favorite sports team, or a bumper sticker proclaiming our life motto. These things can be a fun, fleeting form of personal expression, but a custom belt buckle takes it up a notch! Whether it's a mascot, a word, an animal, a shape, a concept--Firehorse can symbolize your identity in something you can wear almost every day!
I love designing and building custom belt buckles using stained glass and fused glass to achieve a unique, meaningful design. My friends and clients consider me to be intuitive; I thrive with the opportunity to take your personality and concept and turn it into a piece of art. Wearing a custom belt buckle can be as simple as making you smile, to as complex as improving your gut instincts. Belt buckles are extremely meaningful, located at the third chakra, or your power and self-esteem center. Every time you breathe from your diaphragm, you'll be reminded of that beautiful color, shape and symbol that makes YOU who YOU are! As friends compliment you on your fashionable find, you can smile, knowing that it's so much more than that--this belt buckle is a vision board! Imagine how empowering it would be to wear a symbol of YOU right there on your belt! :) I look forward to creating with you! |
